Timezones and Event Times
Correct timezone setup prevents confusing event times and date mismatches.
This guide is specifically about timezone behavior. For calendar link/import behavior, use:
1. Set your profile timezone
- Go to Profile.
- Choose a valid IANA timezone (example:
America/New_York).
- Save before creating or editing events.
2. Set event timezone before entering times
- In event creation/editing, pick Event Timezone first.
- Enter start and end in local wall time for that event location.
- Attendees will still view times in their own local timezone.
3. Verify calendar behavior
- In My Events, confirm the displayed time is correct.
- If times look shifted, re-check profile timezone and event timezone values.
- If needed, have another user in a different timezone verify expected conversion.
4. Quick troubleshooting
- Wrong by a fixed number of hours: timezone conversion issue.
- Wrong date on recurring events: recurrence anchor timezone mismatch.
- Different times between users: expected if users are in different local timezones.
- DST edge case confusion: verify IANA timezone value (for example
America/New_York, not generic EST).
Recommended practice
- Hosts should announce a timezone in the event description for clarity.
- Keep store and host profiles aligned to the real venue timezone.
- Use explicit timezone names in docs and team communication.
