Getting Started Guides

Practical walkthroughs for the most common Guildhall workflows: creating events, joining communities, managing stores, and getting timezone/calendar behavior right.

Timezones and Event Times

Timezones and Event Times

Correct timezone setup prevents confusing event times and date mismatches.

This guide is specifically about timezone behavior. For calendar import and subscription details, also use:

1. Set your profile timezone

  • Go to Profile.
  • Choose a valid IANA timezone such as America/New_York.
  • Save before creating or editing events.

2. Set event timezone before entering times

  • In the event wizard, pick Event Timezone first.
  • Enter start and end times in the local wall time for the event location.
  • Attendees still see converted times in their own timezone.

3. Verify the display

  • In My Events, confirm the displayed time looks correct.
  • If times look shifted, re-check both profile timezone and event timezone.
  • If needed, have another user in a different timezone verify the expected conversion.

4. Quick troubleshooting

  • Wrong by a fixed number of hours: timezone conversion issue.
  • Wrong date on recurring events: recurrence anchor or timezone mismatch.
  • Different times between users: expected when users are in different local timezones.
  • DST edge case confusion: use a real IANA timezone such as America/New_York, not generic abbreviations like EST.

Recommended practice

  • Hosts should mention the event timezone in the description when audiences may be distributed.
  • Keep store and host profiles aligned to the real venue timezone.
  • Use explicit timezone names in docs and team communication.
